‘WHITE RIBBON’ ACTIVITIES STRONG ON THE COAST
The Kapiti Coast/Horowhenua Amnesty group -– cited as Amnesty’s most active NZ team –- is launching a major campaign against violence towards women and human rights.
The group is focusing first on 16-days of activism to end gender violence, which launches with White Ribbon Day on November 25.
The second main focus is Human Rights Day on December 10.
The two campaigns are intertwined and Amnesty’s Activism Manager, Margaret Taylor, says:
“Human Rights Day marks the end of the 16 days of activism and highlights the inextricable link with human rights and the need to end to gender violence.”
Margaret Taylor says additionally she is honoured to be the key note speaker at the group’s annual human rights book donation to the Coast’s libraries on December 9.
“It’s a way for Amnesty to say thank-you for the consistent support both it and the Kapiti Coast group receive from Kapiti Coast residents, and honours the important role libraries play in protecting and promoting freedom of expression.”
To back this up, the Kapiti Coast /Horowhenua group says it’s maintaining “an incredible pace to complete the first half of Amnesty’s 50th birthday year.
It says: “The Kapiti Group is ensuring that people on the coast can actively engage in the White Ribbon Campaign and visibly stand in opposition to violence against women through numerous events.”
