Thousands expected at Kāpiti Coast Youth Festival
A giant inflatable trampoline and soapy soccer field are among attractions expected to lure thousands of youngsters to McLean Park, Paraparaumu on Saturday, March 17, to celebrate Youthfest.
The event, organised by Kāpiti Coast Youth Council, attracted over 4000 young people last year and Youth Council member, Jacob Barker, says organisers are expecting an even better turn-out for this year’s event.
He says:“Youthfest is about providing young people with an opportunity to showcase their talents, celebrate diversity and participate in a free event which shapes our culture and the community.
“The event is organised by young people, for young people, with the whole day being delivered by youth volunteers. Young people will be contributing a range of organisational and practical skills aimed at making the day a success.”
A wide variety of free activities will be available. Attractions include a skate competition run by Cheapskates, The Renegades (DJ’s), Skinny Mobile on site, ZM sound stage and Black Thunders, breakdancing and hip hop performances by PRAIZ and Adrenaline dance crews.
Jacob says there will also be “free summer drinks, lots of giveaways and a variety of food…and plenty more!”
A highlight this year will be replacing the existing skate park mural with a new design, which will be done by local young people on the day.
The free event runs from 12pm to 3pm at Maclean Park, Paraparaumu Beach.
