Kapiti Teacher Honoured
By Alan TristramFollowing in the footsteps of her father who was a principal at Waikanae Primary School and Raumati Beach School, local teacher Winsome Kaye has been made an Associate of the New Zealand Educational Institute (NZEI). The NZEI is the union representing primary school teachers.
After many years serving children and families at a number of schools, Winsome Kaye’s work was recognised at a recent NZEI branch event held in Paraparaumu.
“It is the first time such an award has been made to a Kapiti Branch member in several decades which shows how rare such awards are,” said Kapiti NZEI Branch president, Peter Corlett, when he presented the award to her at a recent branch celebration.
Winsome shared her recollections of becoming a teacher after previously trained and completing nursing training, and of being an NZEI member when she first started her teaching career in Kapiti in 1978.
But at what cost has this fiasco been to the Kapiti Ratepayers???????????
