Alan Tristram reports that at mid-day today the KCDC’s flag remained at the top of its mast outside the district’s main library — and the Paraparaumu Police Station had no flag at all.

Meanwhile, members of the Kapiti public did honour him by leaving nine flower tributes at the base of the empty flagpole outside the Paraparaumu Police Station.

Earlier, the Kapiti Mayor, K Gurunathan, and his deputy Cr Janet Holborow were engrossed in conversation at the Novella Cafe just metres away from the full-mast flag.
So neither could be unaware of the flag.
Senseless attack causes wiespread sorrow
People throughout the country, including Kapiti, have been mourning Contable Hunt, who died in a senseless and cold-blooded attack while making a traffic check.

Constable Hunt was not armed.
Another officer was shot in the leg and a member of the public was reportedly hit by the car carrying the offender.
