Groups fighting to save Kāpiti Airport, supported by the Mayors of Kāpiti and Porirua have launched another attempt to persuade the Government to act.
Kāpiti Mayor K Gurunathan and Porirua’s Anita Baker, with representatrives from the Kāpiti Aero Club and Save Kāpiti Airport, met Transport Minister Michael Wood to ask for his support.
After the meeting, Anita Baker was quoted by the Dominion Post as saying she was ‘quite happy with the meeting’ and added ‘we got a good hearing.’
Minister Wood is reported as saying the meeting was constructive and he now plans to meet the Airport owners.
Ms Baker, who chairs the Region’s Civil Defence committee, told the meeting the health services had landed aircraft at the airport more than 30 times in the past month.
She also says the Airport could be vital if a major quake struck, cuts roads between Wellington Porirua and the Hutt Valley.
