Grace MacCormick reports the New Zealand Listener may rise again after indications it may have found a buyer.
The magazine’s owner, Bauer Media, abruptly closed its New Zealand business last month, resulting in the loss of 237 jobs.
But Bauer Media have offered to sell some of its former titles to an array of media companies and investment firms.
The titles listed as up for sale were: NZ Woman’s Weekly, NEXT, North & South, The Listener, Metro, Taste, FQ, Your Home & Garden, Simply You, Home, Good Health and Wellbeing and the website noted.co.nz.
The Listener remains one of New Zealand’s most recognised brands, informing and entertaining Kiwis through eight decades and bringing its iconic wit and humour to homes every week.

Towards the end of April subscribers of The Listener received emails from Bauer saying that the sale process of the magazine was “progressing well.”
“In our previous update to you we advised that we were hopeful of securing new ownership for the magazine so that your subscription can continue with new publishers,” Bauer said in the email.
“This sale process is progressing well and we remain optimistic that your subscription will be able to resume in the not too distant future.”
“We know that you will be missing your magazine, especially during these challenging times, and we are working hard to enable its return.”
