Two Kapiti Stations in Upgrade
April 21, 2010
Major works to upgrade the Paraparaumu and Waikanae railway stations will start next month.
The $6.5 million project will provide 200-metre platforms at both stations as well as new station buildings, car parking and access facilities.
The work is part of the $90 million rail upgrade for the Kapiti Coast, which includes electrification from Parapraumu to Waikanae.
KiwiRail says the work will take up to seven months.
New Matangi electric units are due to arrive in New Zealand later this year for the Kapiti Coast line.
Originally the improved service through to Waikanae was scheduled to begin at the end of this year, but KiwiRail now says it will be delayed by about a month.
But the company says this will allow it to use the quiet Christmas New Year period to do intensive ‘commissioning’ work when not many people are using the trains.

Good on them! About time. But that money is a fraction of what they are putting into roads.
