KCDC ‘euthanises’ dog that attacked horses and riders in QE ParkBy alan Tristram
The Kapiti Coast District Council (KCDC) says the dog that recently attacked two horses and their riders in Queen Elizabeth Park has been euthanised.
It had been held by KLCDC Animal Control Services since they were called to the park last Saturday after both horses received multiple injuries in a sustained attack during which the riders were also injured.
The Council says: “The dog’s owners have confirmed they got the dog on Trade Me, not from an animal shelter in Levin, as had previously been reported in the media.
“They were fully cooperative and signed the dog over to Council.
“This was a very unfortunate situation involving traumatised horses, their owners and a dog that has had to be euthanised, says Environmental Standards Manager Nick Fowler.
“We only take this action as a last resort, however the gravity of the situation warranted our most serious and immediate response.”
And Mr Fowler says the matter is still being investigated.
