Kapiti villages in sporting contests next week
By Roger Childs
Bad weather has meant the eagerly awaited “battle of the villages” has had to be postponed until Wednesday 12 March.
This annual event has grown ever since it started back in 2002. It’s organised by the Kapiti Retirement Trust Residents Association and this year will take place at Seven Oaks and Midlands.
In 2014 six Kapiti Coast retirement villages will compete in seven sports
- Golf Croquet
- Indoor Bowls
- Outdoor Bowls
- Table Tennis.
Participation and competition
The Inter-Villages Sports Day is all about lifestyle. Retirees from the participating villages on the Kapiti Coast will be able to not only show their skills in the various sports, but also socialise with people they would not usually meet.
The emphasis is on people participating and having a good time, however there is a serious side as there are trophies up for grabs in the individual sports and an overall village winner’s trophy.
There will be over 180 people taking part from
- Charles Fleming Retirement Village
- Kapiti Villas
- Coastal Villas
- Seven Oaks/Midlands/Muriwai Court
So it will be all on next Wednesday, and the trophies will be keenly contested. However the bottom line is that the Inter-Villages Sports Day is about enjoying the play and the company.
