Wrapping up the exhibition
From the Kapiti Coast Quilters
Thursday evening saw the final event in the Kapiti Quilters Exhibition with the presentation of prizes for the winning quilt.
Griet Lombard, this year’s judge, was there to comment on the quality of the quilts and to present the prizes. She also commented that we were “a great group with such a good vibe” so if you are looking for a sewing group to join, come along to our next day meeting
~ on Tuesday 16th May, 10.30 am
~ at the Waikanae Bridge Club Rooms in Elizabeth Street.

Let’s hear it for the winners!
The 150 quilts in the exhibition were viewed by over 1000 people during the two day event, and every quilt showed the creativity and skill of our guild members.
Quilts ranged from “quick, easy and colourful” to “very complex labours of love” in both hand sewn and machined.
Winners on the day were:
Best Contemporary Quilt – Sandra Killen
Best Machine Appliqué – Sheryl Meech

Best Hand Quilting – Patricia Fouhy
Best Traditional Quilt – Allison Paris
Best Use of Colour – Judy Walsh
Best Hand Appliqué – Judith Dudson
Best Child’s Quilt – Carol Brill
Best Machine Quilting / Domestic Machine – Margaret Fawcett
Best In Show – Anne-Marie Dunlop
Viewers selections
During the exhibition, all viewers were able to vote for their favourite quilt, and these votes were tallied up to provide the “Viewers Choice” winners who were announced at the Thursday meeting.
Viewers’ Choice Best in Show
1st Jackie Holland 2nd Margaret Fawcett 3rd Anne-Marie Dunlop
Another feature of the exhibition was the Challenge Quilts section, where entrants had to have used a particular piece of fabric as part of their quilt. It was fascinating to see the variety of what the entrants produced. The flower themed fabric was used to make “under the sea”, animal, landscape, floral art and symmetrical quilts. These were judged by viewers choice.
