Raumati man John Tovey says the campaign to stop KiwiRail from carrying coal started a year ago when Extinction Rebellion stopped a coal train.
Now they’ve rebooted the campaign by stopping a second coal train alongside Dunedin’s classic old railway station last Saturday.
As a result, eight of them are appearing in Court this week.
They have also used Greenpeace’s Community Action platform to set up a petition.
John Tovey says: “The planet is making it clear to us that the changes needed are not happening fast enough.
“The petition is one way of putting pressure on our politicians to act with a lot more urgency to reduce our emissions.
“It means a lot to me and the more support we can get behind it, the better chance we have of succeeding. You can read more and sign the petition here:”
