Poets to the People reports Ben Fagan has stepped in to replace Richard Langston as this month’s poet on Sunday 28th .
Gill Ward says: “Richard’s brother-in-law (his sister’s husband) has died and he has gone to Dunedin to the funeral and to support his family. We send him condolences and sympathy from all of us at Poets to the People.
Ben Fagan coming from Hawke’s Bay
“However, we now have Ben Fagan.
He’s a spoken word poet and producer from Te Matau-a-Māui / Hawke’s Bay, and has shared his work across the UK, USA and NZ.
Ben has taken two poetry shows to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and until recently was a producer for ‘Apples and Snakes’, the UK’s leading spoken word poetry organisation.
And he’s a TEDx performer and organiser, and recently ran Hawke’s Bay’s first regional poetry slam.
Ben is part of the team behind the annual New Zealand Poetry Slam, Poetry in Motion Wellington, and the new company Motif Poetry. His first poetry collection was published by Burning Eye Books’ imprint Bx3 in 2017.
Ben’s featured at Poets to the People a couple of times, and has carried this communities’ support with him across the world. He says he is very much looking forward to returning.
Note:This means the posters will not be valid but I’ll try and get out there and graffiti them somehow!
Meanwhile, do tell your friends and get the word out. And just as importantly come along and support an upcoming young New Zealand poet. He will be a refreshing and entertaining addition to our always stimulating poetical line up. A big thank you to Elizabeth for organising Ben for us.
