Poem of the Week: Let It Be

The trauma of funerals

funeral-1Hundreds of Kapiti people attended a funeral today. Such services for the departed can be very hard to take for the relatives and close friends. If the love one was in her/his 70s, 80s or 90s it is easier for people to cope, and the emphasis at the funeral is usually on “celebrating a life”.

However, when it is a 39 year old, or anyone who has passed on well before their time, it is a very sad occasion indeed.

Many of you, like us, have lost children or relations who were young, or in the prime of life. In these circumstances it is difficult to come to terms with the loss.

Adjusting to life without them is tough and challenging, however in the end we all know that we just have to “Let it be”.

Let It Be by Paul McCartney
When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom
Let it be

And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be

And when the broken-hearted people
Living in the world agree
There will be an answer
Let it be

For though they may be parted there is
Still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Yeah, there will be an answer
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be

And when the night is cloudy
There is still a light that shines on me
Shine until tomorrow
Let it be

I wake up to the sound of music
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah, let it be
There will be an answer
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah, let it be
There will be an answer
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be
