KCDC says Chainsaw Gang at Work AgainKapiti Independent News 17th September 2009
Removal of pine trees from around the Riwai Street Reservoir in East Paraparaumu will begin in the next few weeks, says Lex Bartlett, Open Space Manager for the Kapiti Coast District Council.
“The first lot will be removed under our supervision by Telecom and their contractor as the trees are interfering with their mobile tower signal as well as affecting other telemetry installations on the reservoir site,” he says.
“The Council also plans to start removing pines as part of a long-term plan to remove them from this area and to replant with natives. This will commence in the next planting season in May to August of next year.” says Mr Bartlett.
“In the short term this will mean the reservoir will be more exposed to view than it is now.” he says, “but the natives will provide a better coverage and a visual result in the longer term.”
