Over 20,000 Kapiti people took the opportunity to walk or bike on the new highway. Some of our readers have expressed their dismay over the money spent on this massive project and KIN respects their views.
Some people have lost their homes; there has been noise, dust and banging concerns; local traffic has been disrupted and the money could have gone towards more efficient public transport.
On the positive side there will be a separation of through and town traffic; less pollution, fuel use and stress; a wonderful new 16km cycleway/walkway and large areas of new wetland and plantings.
The Mckays to Peka Peka Expressway is now reality and by their presence in the thousands on Saturday, most Kapiti citizens have given it the seal of approval.
