New Kāpiti Councillor Bernie Randall is launching a dramatic attempt to claw back the District Libraries’ book budget.
The budget for books and materials was slashed by nearly 50 per cent — some $192,000 — when Mayor Gurunathan and Councillors in the last administration approved the annual plan.
But Cr Randall has now introduced a motion for the Paraparaumu Raumati Community Board to approve at its meeting on Tuesday, December 10.
This asks the Council to ‘restore the reduction in the book budget for the Paraparaumu Library made in the last Annual Plan.’
Councillor Randall campaigned strongly on the issue in the election.
And the ROBB (Restore Our Book Budget) group says its campaign, as well as boosting Cr Randall’s vote, helped oust three sitting councillors who approved the cuts.
ROBB says the campaign also drastically reduced the vote for sitting Mayor K Gurunthan.
