‘Thai Lagoon the place to spoon’ — our cafe critic
Review by Ms Luwak
It was a wet and wintery Friday evening when we ventured out to the Thai Lagoon in Raumati Beach. What could be better than all those spices and ginger to warm your soul…
We were greeted pleasantly and seated efficiently with menus, water and wine glass delivered promptly. The menu is extensive and I love the names of some of the dishes: Spooky Bean, After Last Night and My First Kiss to name a few.
For starters we ordered Curry Puffs, which consisted of a minced chicken mixture wrapped in pastry and deep fried to golden perfection, served with a Thai sweet chilli dipping sauce. They were delicious!
We then proceeded on to a Tom Yum soup. With lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves, chilli, lemon juice and coriander the soup has a complex flavour with plenty of depth. Large chunks of ginger too, and my Prawn Tom Yum had 4 fat juicy prawns. No wonder they call it Tom Yum!
We had decided to share a curry and order extra Jasmine rice. We opted for the Red Curry with chicken. Again full of beautiful flavours and there was plenty of it.
All enjoyed with a bottle of Chardonnay that we brought from home but the Thai Lagoon is also fully licensed.
We dined like kings but the bill was very reasonable. We were warm and full and that wet wintery night just didn’t seem so bad after all.
