24 May  2010

Latest on Weather:

Heavy rain is now falling in northern parts of the north island and there are predictions that it may last for up to 72 hours.

The south island has too has had quite a bit of rain also.

The met-service has issued severe weather warnings predicting strong winds and heavy rain to lash both north and south islands.

The heavy rain will probably settle in this afternoon or early evening.

In some regions around the country there had been reports of up to 170mm of rain received in the last 24 hours.

The MetService yesterday warned of winds of up to 90kmh which were expected to lash the North Island from Auckland to Kapiti and in the South Island from Marlborough to Canterbury, including Westland.

In the North Island, severe gusts were expected in Taranaki and Manawatu.

Any loose debris laying around should be cleaned up and put in a sheltered place.

People need to think about their pets also and make sure that you have provisions in place to look after them.
