Little-known Fact No. 1: ‘The man who forgot the President’s name.’

Polly, Don 2010 001

Well-known Paekakakariki man Don Polly, formerly founder and editor of the Paekakariki Xpressed, has led an amazingly varied life.

Not only a highly-skilled journalist, Don once worked as an auto mechanic in a California garage.

It was in  the 1960’s when the famous actor and politician who was to become the future US President Reagan walked into the garage to collect his automobile.

Don recognised him immediately and hurried over to help him — but then found he’d forgotten Ronnie’s name.

What on earth can you do in  a situation like this?

This actually.

Don’s sharp wits came to his rescue. He shook Reagan’s hand and asked: ‘Now, are you really who I think you are?’

And this is a true story. Ask Don.
