Kāpiti US Marines Trust gets supreme award
Five Kāpiti organisations have been honoured with Wellington Airport community awards– with the ‘supreme award’ going to the Kāpiti US Marines Trust.
The community awards, presented by Greg Thomas of Wellington Airport at a function in Paraparaumu, were in recognition of the contribution the five groups have made to the district. The awards are:

- Kāpiti US Marines Trust (heritage & environment)
- Kāpiti Coast Museum (arts & culture)
- Meals On Wheels Volunteers, Kāpiti Red Cross Branch (health & well-being)
- Lions Club of Kāpiti (sport & leisure).
The Supreme Winner Award for the district went to the Kāpiti US Marines Trust.
Regional awards ahead
The category winners for Kāpiti will go on to contest the Wellington Airport regional awards which will be presented on 18 October and the Kāpiti US Marines Trust will vie for the region’s Supreme Winner Award at that function.
“Congratulations to these organisations,” says Steve Sanderson, Chief Executive of Wellington Airport (which runs the awards in partnership with the Wellington Community Trust and the district’s five local councils).
“Volunteers in our community, and the work they do, are vital for the whole Wellington region. We want to make sure they’re recognised and celebrated for their dedication and hard work.”

The Kāpiti Coast’s Civic Awards, acknowledging individual contributions to the district, were presented by Mayor Jenny Rowan to Mark & Coral Smith, Peter & Alexandra (Lexie) Clark, Anna Upton, Rob Kofoed and Peter Mansfield.
In addition, Mayoral Awards went to Barry Hadfield (leading political, economic and social figure in Kāpiti) and Chris Maclean (historian, writer, photographer and publisher) in recognition of their significant contributions to the district over a number of years.
“It’s important we honour and thank these people for devoting so much of their time to our communities,” Mayor Jenny Rowan says. “The work they do makes a real difference to all of us.”
