Roadside blaze slows SH1 traffic

It was a slow trip for drivers on SH1 North and South of Manakau yesterday evening, with traffic at a crawl due in the aftermath of a house fire that destroyed a roadside house.
Sirens sounded several times in Levin shortly after 4:30p.m.
Appliances from Levin and Otaki and other emergency services attended the fire near the Ohau rail over-bridge.
According to Levin chief fire officer Lyndsay Walker, the fire was quickly brought under control.
However, due to the extensive damage to the house including its internal structure, including the ceiling, it is unlikely that the house would be salvageable.
No-one was injured as the house was unoccupied at the time the fire broke out.
