The Supreme Court in Wellington has dismissed an appeal by Save Kapiti against the granting of consents for the Kapiti Expressway.

The decision means construction is set to begin within weeks on the MacKays to Peka Peka section of the Expressway .

Transport Minister Gerry Brownlee says: “By building a four lane divided expressway linking the capital to the north, we will save lives, reduce journey times and provide a huge boost to the economic growth and productivity of the region.”

The expressway is part of the Wellington Northern Corridor, which when fully completed is expected to reduce peak journey times by 40 minutes and provide a more resilient lifeline in the event of a natural disaster, according to the Government.

The Court’s decision means that both the MacKays to Peka Peka section of the Kapiti Expressway and Transmission Gully are now fully consented.
