‘Let’s Kōrero Horowhenua’ Shows The Way

The Horowhenua District Council has come up with an innovative way to boost public involvement — ‘Let’s Kōrero Horowhenua.’

It says: ‘This is a space for our community to share ideas, discuss important topics, provide feedback on policy, planning and contribute to the future of the Horowhenua District.

Amond the key ideas —
Cuppa with a Councillor ‘Second Thursday of each month
10:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-pō, Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom or Shannon Library
Join us for a cuppa and a chat about local topics that matter to you. Cuppa with a Councillor is scheduled for the second Thursday of each month.’

The Council says it is getting started on planning the Long Term Plan (LTP), and ‘we want to check in and hear from you about what you think should be included.

‘We’re keeping it real – budgets are tight for all of us, including Council.

‘With various changes and growth happening in our district, we want to keep it simple and make sure the essentials are covered.

‘We’re living in a changing environment with further changes ahead in a number of areas, including three waters.

‘So here’s the deal: Our LTP should be all about nailing the basics while fostering our growth and getting ready for opportunities which could come our way. Plus, we’re big on reducing and managing waste.

Planning for the next 20 years is a team effort, and we want your two cents!
