A group of American Rugby World Cup supporters have been welcomed onto the Whakarongotai  Marae with a powhiri  (welcome).

The powhiri included traditional Maori speech making together with an  account of the history of the marae and local history by kamatua Don Te Maipi.

The students from Waikanae Primary School Kapa Haka group provided wiata as part of the welcome.

This was followed by entertainment with Waikanae school children doing poi, waiata and haka.

And as a finale, the guests were treated to a traditional hangi on the Marae.
