National honours for local players

By Angelo RobinsonKapiti Basketball

Ten Kapiti Basketballers have been selected for the New Zealand Basketball Academy’s Age Group Teams to tour Las Vegas USA in July this year.

Five months of intense trials and trainings at the New Zealand Basketball Academy (NZBA) camps held in Wellington last year and the beginning of this year have seen these Kapiti players rewarded with selection for these teams. Players from all over New Zealand across all age groups trialled for these teams.

We are very proud of our Kapiti players and their selections for these NZBA age group teams.

Support the fundraising if you can

These players have all worked extremely hard to get to this stage, but there is still more intense endeavour to come with trainings and further camps in preparation for these major tournaments in the USA.

Besides training, the players  will also be very busy fundraising for their trip costs of  $4,200. Already a number of players have started on this and have  planned

  • sausage sizzles
  • car washes
  • a Quiz Night
  • selling beanies
  • cake stalls

So please be on the lookout for their various fundraising activities and support them where you can.

Fundraising activities will be posted on the Kapiti Basketball website – www.KBA.co.nz

Tough competition in the States

The competition at these USA tournaments is fierce with more details on beanies,  with all the top age-group teams from around the USA attending. This will be a wonderful experience for these players and will show them what they need to do to be able to compete and be successful at the next stage and level of basketball.

Emily Teono has been selected for the last two NZ Basketball Academy Girls Teams, this now being her 3rd selection. Jack Hughes-Richards was selected for the first time last year.

Both players did extremely well over in the USA and came back even more determined to raise their game.

Congratulations again to all these players.  Kapiti Basketball is extremely proud of them all for their achievements to date.
