INTEREST IN SUSTAINABLE LIVING ON THE RISE
29 January 2011
Planning is well underway for the 2011 Kāpiti Coast Sustainable Home and Garden Show to be held on the last weekend of March.
Organisers say interest in sustainable building and renovation options, DIY and using existing resources is at an all time high, given the current economic environment.
The two-day event will be held on 26 and 27 March and will focus on demonstrating sustainable options for home and garden – where people can get new ideas and solutions, products or advice tailored to their lifestyle and budgetary needs.
Kāpiti Coast Mayor Jenny Rowan says one of the key focus areas for the 2011 Council-organised event will be around resourceful living – indoors and out.
The Kāpiti Coast District Council is at the forefront of the sustainability challenge, and the Sustainable Home & Garden Show has become Council’s signature event after humble beginnings six years ago.
“This Show continues to grow out of a demand to meet the needs of our Kāpiti Coast residents, as well as visitors from further afield wanting to make a difference and live a more sustainable way of life. We see this event as a vital way to reach our residents and illustrate a leadership role in the community.”
The Kāpiti Sustainable Home and Garden Show introduces concepts and new innovations in gardening techniques, energy saving and eco design, sustainable transport options, healthy homes, sustainable business solutions, and more.
The show will again be held at Kāpiti Primary School on Rimu Road, Paraparaumu, and will feature a wide range of vendors, as well as coast-grown entertainment and some fun activities for the whole family.
Car parking will be available, but in keeping with the Show’s theme, the organisers will be encouraging people to use public transport or cycle to the event.
