Blues and jump by a warm winter fire

A blues show with a difference is coming to Finns in Paekakariki from 2-5 pm on Sunday 19 June.  The Green Parrots, a five piece unit led by Kayte Edwards, will be supported by juggler Anthony Bertrand, multi-instrumentalist Roger Rangituaua and bluesman Al Witham.  The gig is from 2-5pm at Finns Bar and Restaurant, Paekakariki, and admission is $8.

The Green Parrots are a new band led by singer-songwriter Kayte Edwards, who is best known for her blues-based band Kayte and the Barflys and album Emergenc-ee. The band includes Jack Cromie (drums), Elliot Fuimoana (bass), and Gilbert Haisman (piano) and Aden Mackay (drums).  The group plays blues and country in the tradition of Billie Holliday, Memphis Minnie, Louis Jordan, Tom Waits and Hank Williams, plus originals by Kayte.

“The guests are a treat,” says co-organiser Gilbert Haisman.  “Anthony Bertrand hails from France and is making a splash in the Kiwi juggling, and Roger Rangituaua is an amazing saxophonist, just back from a tour of Africa, who is also a great guitarist and plays trumpet and drums. Al Witham is a stalwart of Kiwi Blues with a unique baritone, swampy guitar and haunting originals, who is working on his third CD.”
