Wharemauku Sewage Problems Continue

Wharemauku Stream at Coastlands

Kāpiti Coast Council says there are still problems on the Wharemauku Stream following Monday’s sewage overflow under the Coastlands shopping centre.

Council says: ‘The test results from our water sampling still show elevated levels of bacteria.

‘Signage remains in place and we are continuing to advise people to stay clear of the stream and where the stream comes out at Raumati Beach until further notice.

‘If people have been in contact with water from the stream in the last few days and feel unwell they are advised to contact their family doctor or phone Healthline 0800 611 116.’

Coastlands, KCC, Transit NZ and the Railways should spend some collective money on cleaning up and ‘unstraightening’ the Wharemauku to turn it back into the taonga it must formerly have been – and could undoubtedly be again. This should have happened before they put in the expressway. It’s been treated like a drain from Kaitawa to the sea.
