Wellington Mayoralty close

Kerry Prendergast wins mayoralty race

by forty votes

9 October 2010

Ms Prendergast has had a very long wait in what has been one of Wellington’s closest mayoralty races for a while clipping rival Celia Wade-Brown by 24,468 votes to 24,428.

However special votes are still to be counted and the result could be overturned.

900 special votes are to be counted on Monday but this may not become available till Wednesday.

A last minute surge of voters did not eventuate and although turnout had increased, everything started to tail off yesterday said a council spokesperson.
