Whakarongotai Meeting

Funding Issues Likely at No-election AGM

March 25.2010

Questions over finance are likely to be the main issues raised at this Sunday’s (March 28) annual general meeting of the Waikanae-based Ati Awa ki Whakarongotai runanga.

The election of officers has been pre-declared, as only five names were put forward by last week’s deadline for nominations for the five vacancies.

The elected executive has been named as Tetokawhakaea Graham (chairman), Jack Rikihana (deputy chair), Tina Mareikura (secretary), Daniel Mullen (treasurer) and Mark Parata (executive member).

Meantime Te Whakaruruhau, the alternative runanga executive appointed late last year, is planning to seek answers to questions over finance at Sunday’s annual general meeting.

They are understood to involve fisheries income and District Health Board funding for Hora te Pai, the well-regarded Paraparaumu-based iwi health centre which provides GP and whanau health services.

Sunday’s meeting is at 2pm at Whakarongotai Marae.
