Waikanae School’s Mighty March Market, last Saturday, was a huge success and  raised  approximately $16,000.

The Market, organised by the PTA, was the culmination of weeks of work by PTA parents and children through-out the school.

Every class baked, constructed items, and participated in selling items through their stalls.

The weather was great and the school grounds were packed with stalls of items  designed and created with great flair by the children. The items included jewellery, cards, picture frames, home baking, painted flower pots and lolly necklaces.

The funds raised are to be used for playground developments but the children decided that $1000 of the funds would go to the Red Cross for the Christchurch earthquake appeal.

Teacher Peter Corlett said he was very impressed by the way the children took on and overcame challenges and worked collaboratively to ensure everything was ready for Saturday

“The children`s stall ideas were wonderfully creative and it was obvious that they felt very proud of their achievements” he said.
