Paraparauma College Talented Musicians
On Monday the 24th September over 450 Waikanae School children were entertained by a visiting performance group from Paraparaumu College.
The show, entitled “The WOW Factor” featured 20 talented musicians and performing arts students from the college.
The group played a wide selection of instruments with a stringed section of two violinists, a base guitar, and two lead guitars, and a wind section featuring two clarinets, a trombonist, a tenor saxophone and a trumpet, while the percussionist played drums.
The contingent was rounded off with six singers and four dancers, as well as a sound crew and three teachers.
Of particular note was that the group featured several Waikanae School ex-pupils, including Alex Lopez-Sanchez, who played a lead violin solo, which delighted his younger brother, a current student at Waikanae School.
The interactive forty-five minute performance included a selection modern and traditional songs as well as dance numbers where children from the audience were encouraged to join in.
After the show Anatia David a Year six pupil commented, “It was really entertaining and I hope to be like them one day… I’d be a singer.” While Corey McShane said “It was really awesome … I wish I was on drums”.
The group then continued their visits to other local schools promoting the performing arts as a future educational opportunity for students who chose to attend the College.
