The Wildblue NZ Spearfishing & Freediving Championships

By Graeme Trask

The weather was fine but the tides were running big time for the Wildblue NZ Spearfishing Event held at Paraparaumu Beach last Saturday (14th March).

A total of 25 pairs of divers took part in this year’s event coming from all over the country.

The beach area in front of the Kapiti Boating Club saw a hive of activity.

After bad weather during the week it left quite a swell running and along with the tide out as well many boats taking to the water launched in trying conditions.

Divers started to return to the beach at 3pm to have their catches weighed in and recorded.
