A Brief look at our past about our Flag.
Did you know this was New Zealand’s first official flag back on March 20th 1834, known as the flag of United Tribes. It remained the official flag until 1840 when it was replaced by the British flag, the union Jack.
In 1902, this flag became New Zealand’s National flag. There are conflicts over whether this flag should be replaced with something that better describes who we are and also separates us more on a defined level from Australia.
Another flag that has been around for many years is the flag of Maori Independence movement, Tino Rangatiratanga. This flag was designed in 1990 by Hiraina Marsden, Jan Smith and Linda Munn. Teno Rangatiratanga means = Maori Independence
