Te Horo Rural Fire Force has elected Lesley Matthews as the first woman chair of its management committee.
Lesley, who lives in Te Horo, is an IT contractor and was previously deputy chair of the management committee.
Te Horo Rural Fire Force is one of the few voluntary rural fire services in the country to have a management committee set up specifically to support the busy operational fire fighting group which, since Christmas alone, has dealt with 11 rural blazes.
Lesley succeeds long-time chair Glenn Burt who has retired after 30 years’ service and was one of the founding members of Te Horo Rural Fire Force.
Electra Trust chairman Chris Turver of Te Horo was elected deputy chair.
