Losing weight  in a healthy way

Coming into summer most people will be looking at losing some of the weight they have gained over the winter months. Loose skin is a concern when loosing large amounts of weight.  As you lose weight your skin’s collagen will be working over -time repairing itself.

 

The key to preventing loose skin is to lose weight in a healthy way. Gradual weight loss allows your skin time to regain elasticity as opposed to rapid weight loss which will cause the skin to remain in a stretched state.

Moisturising your skin daily is important, dry skin is more prone to sagging and collagen breakdown.  A good thick moisturising cream will increase hydration and improve elasticity.

Resistance training and regular exercising will help replace lost fat with lean muscle.  Joining a local gym can help with this and if you struggle with motivation, a Personal Trainer can help point you in the right direction.

Exfoliating your skin daily will increase skin cell turnover. You can do this while you are showering. There are a number of good exfoliating products available. Your Beauty Therapist will be able to give you advice on this. Exfoliating encourages you skin to produce new skin cells which will lead to healthy, tight skin.

Finally ensure you are getting the right amount of vitamins. Eating a healthy balanced diet is vital. Drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated is important for all bodily functions.  Vitamins such as Vitamin C and Vitamin B can be beneficial to your skin’s healing potential. There are a multitude of supplements available and discussing your options with a Health professional may help you decide what combination is best for you.
