Police Want Help in Kidnap Case

Appeal for van sightings in taxi driver kidnapping

Detective Sergeant Richard Gibson says the Wellington Police are appealing for sightings of a white van believed to be linked to the kidnapping and assault of a taxi driver in the wider Ngauranga area on Wednesday morning.

Police believe the vehicle, a white Toyota Probox similar to that in the image above left , registration FLY984, travelled from Auckland to Wellington last Sunday.

Detective Sgt Gibson says: “We want to hear from anyone who knows the whereabouts of this vehicle, or thinks they may have seen it since Sunday 6th of August, and particularly want to talk to people who saw it in Wellington in the early hours of Wednesday 9th of August.

“If you think you have seen this vehicle please contact Detective Sergeant Richard Gibson at Wellington Police on 04 381 2000.

“Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Police have already arrested two men in relation to this offending, and they were due to appear in the Wellington District Court today.

It is believed a third offender is involved and Police are following strong lines of inquiry to locate that person. However, any more information the public can provide, could help them to do so.
