Emerging in the Spring
Story by Roger Childs, photos by Pam Childs
The American squirrels are always a delightful sight with their wide eyes, furry bodies and bushy tails. However, on our recent trip to California it was four days before we spotted one. Then walking down a suburban street one afternoon we heard a rustling high up in a palm tree and we had our first sighting.
The squirrels are shy creatures and usually race away when they see people.
However, on the Berkeley Campus there is an area of redwoods where they abound and early one evening we spotted four on the needles under the trees. One in particular was happy to pose for Pam’s camera.
