Peter Ellis

Kapiti Independent News (KIN) asked Councillor Peter Ellis what his thoughts were on the recent Sandhills Motorway decision by the NZTA.

“Making the WLR into a four lane expressway at 100km/h was not my favoured option as it has further delayed any local connection between Waikanae Beach and Paraparaumu” he said.

Cr Ellis has never been a supporter of the two lane 50km/h WLR adopted by KCDC  for the 4 lane earth works but he said he supported a 2 lane road at 70 km/h as this was the best option.

“The Expressway will split Kapiti in half and with restricted entry and exit points will severally restrict the movement of people in our area including school children many of whom will have to cross the expressway to get to and from schools and colleges” he said.

And he said, “The over bridges will be massive structures  and a real eyesore.”

Cr Ellis conceded though that a decision had been made and now we need to sit down with the NZTA’s planning team and endeavour  to solve these problems to the best advantage for our ratepayers .
