Police say the results of a post mortem have now confirmed that he  was assaulted and suffered stab wounds.

Detective Sergeant Mike Sears says: “We still want to hear from anyone who has seen Mr Stevens or his vehicle, a white Toyota Carolla registration RZ1852 ,anytime from 10.00pm on Thursday night through to 1.30am on Friday 28 November.”

Paekakariki Hill Road was closed until around 9.00pm on Friday — and police said a scene examination by their Specialist Search Group was continuing at the scene and would continue for several days.

And they are still undertaking a forensic examination of his vehicle itself. They say anyone with information should call 04 381 2000 and ask for the Operation Vintage investigation team.
