‘It’s a grand affair the medal giving.
And all those women this time!
Proud of you, but such a tip of
the female iceberg, all the unsung.
How we need you, mothers, nurses,
teachers, volunteers, caregivers,
researchers, helpers, you are so very
recognised every single day.
Your rewards are your own and
I thought, that young man in Paris,
his reward a job and citizenship
– how perfect! But then I reconsidered
for him it was saving a little child –
best and truest reward. Sort of like
that for women, the unpaid doing
is their best and truest reward.’
