Thanks for the support in 2019
Thank you all for your appreciative and loyal attendance throughout 2019.
Not to forget our own gratitude and appreciation to Gail and all her hardworking staff at Robert Harris who stay late on the last Sunday of the month to look after us. Without their generosity we would not be able to stage these stimulating and fun poetry evenings.
This month – the multi-talented Mary Jane Duffy
This month our guest poet is Mary Jane Duffy. Mary-Jane is a New Zealand writer of poems and essays. For many years she worked in art galleries and museums as a writer, administrator and curator. Her writing has appeared in a wide range of New Zealand publications including The Listener and Sport, as well as various exhibition catalogues – most recently Backscratchers and Business Cards—new work by Lauren Lysaght, Whitespace, Auckland, New Zealand (2015).
Her current projects include a column on contemporary art in the Wellington magazine Fishhead, a monthly art walk around the public and commercial galleries of Wellington, a catalogue with Wellington-based artists Petra Stueben, Kelly Macdonald and Vivian Atkinson, and a poetry manuscript.
She teaches poetry and research at Whitireia New Zealand, and manages its Creative Writing Programme and publishing arm, Escalator Press. Her research interests include the pedagogy of creative writing, the ‘presentness’ of history, and the repurposing of language. You can see from this bio that she is a very busy and multi-talented person!
Spot prizes and more
There will be some spot prizes. When you pay your $5 entry you’ll get a number and numbers will be drawn later. The prizes of course will be literary. Just a little bit of excitement for 2019.
- Sunday November 24th
- Robert Harris Café Coastlands
Shine up one one-page poem for the open mic and finish the year not with a whimper but a bang (thanks T.S.E.).
Other things happening
We will be reminding you all about the poems in the Waiting Room Competition. A good cause to support and money prizes too. Also you will have till 29th February to get your entry in. Much easier for procrastinators.
You can find out more at https://waitingroompoems.wordpress.com
Or just type poems in the waiting room into Teacher Google.
A little shout out here for The Strawberry Festival, Kapiti School playing field, supporting Mary Potter Hospice, Saturday November 23rd.
