‘North of Brisbane is best’
By Roger Childs
Compared to its bold, brash cousin, the Gold Coast south of the Queensland capital, the Sunshine Coast is the relaxing. holiday option.
And the jewel in the crown is Noosa.
Unlike the Gold Coast with its million plus people and soaring skyscrapers, Noosa is pleasantly scattered amongst lakes, forests and mangroves.
From our resort, we look across the river to to the tallest buildings in the area: two seven storey.apartment blocks. Nothing higher than five is allowed these days. Many years ago the shire fathers decided they didn’t want wall-to-wall high rise.
There is no Noosa city. The settlements are Noosa Junction, Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Noosa Waters, Noosa Springs ….
There is also a Noosa National Park just a few hundred meres from blue ribbon shopping in Hastings Street.
A magnificent path takes walkers and runners three kilometres along the coastline to Hell’s Gate.
‘The land of roundabouts’
This is the land of a hundred roundabouts — and traffic lights are few and far between.
The beaches are magnificent and Noosa is a paradise for anyone interested in water sports.
There is also a labyrinth of paths and tracks for cyclists, runners and walkers. Wish you were here!
