To Quiet Waikanae Street

The Armed Offenders Squad has been called to Walton Avenue in Waikanae and has arrested two men without incident.
After the alert early this afternoon, two Waikanae Schools were advised to keep children and teachers inside.
Nearby streets were blocked off.
The armed police were called in after two men said to be known to police were seen carrying firearms from the boot of their car into premises on Walton Avenue.
A total of 20 police in nine vehicles sped to the scene soon after the call at 1.40pm.
At the time, a police spokesman said “It may be totally incident but we’re treating it very cautiously.” Later the two men were arrested, apparently without incident.
Walton Avenue is in a well-established ‘garden area’ in central Waikanae, linking the main road to the beach – Te Moana Avenue – with Ngarara Road and Waikanae Park.
