Norma Jaques, Treasurer of the Kapiti Coast Branch of the NZ Red Cross is impressed by the generosity of coasters who once again gave money to the 2012 annual appeal in the week from 12 to 17 March.
Last year`s appeal was for the Canterbury Earthquake victims and that total was huge. “We couldn’t expect a result of that magnitude this year,” she says.
But it was great to see people of all ages finding some cash to put in the collection tins and buckets at Otaki, Waikanae, Coastlands, Paraparaumu Beach, Raumati Beach and Paekakariki.
The Red Cross members and volunteers who were out on the streets and shopping centres also represented all ages. The youngest was aged 2 and the oldest, 93!
The final total came to nearly $5,900 – over $1000 more than the sum donated in 2010.
