Libraries Want All Kapiti Writers
Shelved for new Collection
March 5,2010The Friends of the Kapiti Coast Libraries and Kapiti Librarians have launched a major hunt for Kapiti writers – alive or dead.
They’re trying to build up a unique collection of writing called ‘Kapiti Writes’.
From the beginning of this month (March), the Friends and Kapiti Coast librarians will be trying to locate all known Kapiti writers, past and present.
They want to include their books or information about the books, in the ‘Kapiti Writes’ collections at the district’s main library in Paraparaumu…
It’s hoped writers, their families and readers will donate books, but the Libraries and the Friends will buy books if necessary.
Janet Secker, chair of Friends of the Libraries, says local writers have already donated more than 60 books following the official opening of Kapiti Writes last August.
However, she says, it’s known that Kapiti people are prolific writers and there are many more titles hidden on people shelves which deserve to be in the Kapiti Writes collection.
She says: “We are interested in all types of writing and will consider self-published work.” The criteria for the books’ inclusion in the collection will be set out in a letters which will be sent to all known authors or other interested parties.
She adds the Friends hope that detailed information about most Kapiti writers will eventually be put on the Libraries’ website.
If anybody thinks their work would be eligible, or knows of someone else’s writing that should be in the collection, they should contact Janet Secker mikjan@clear.net.nz
