Heading for Las Vegas

Kapiti Basketball Players Rachel Pike (Paraparaumu College) Atsuya Miyake (Kapiti College) have been selected for the New Zealand Basketball Academy Age Group Teams.

They are off to Las Vegas USA, on 15th July.

The Teams will be playing against some of the best High Schools and Players in the USA in the AAU & NCAA endorsed tournaments, as well as attending a 2-day training camp with the West Coast Elite Academy.

The NZBA Tour Group will be staying at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) to provide the athletes with an on-campus athlete experience.

Best of luck Rachel and Atsuya and we look forward to hearing all about the Tour when you get back.

Playing against some of the best

The purpose of the NZBA Tour is to expose New Zealand players to the intensity of the American style of play by competing against some of the best NCAA Club Teams in the USA.

Playing at this level is excellent preparation for anyone with aspirations of gaining a USA University Scholarship.

With 3 Tournaments being played the tour is intense, both for play, training, and compulsory study as students will be away from school at the start of Term 3.

Tremendous opportunity

Kapiti’s NZBA Tour players Rachel & Atsuya

This is an amazing opportunity for these players. The competition at these USA tournaments is fierce, with all the top age group teams from around the USA attending along with recruiting Coaches and Scouts.

The Teams will all be staying on the University of  Nevada Las Vegas campus (UNLV) during the Tournaments in Las Vegas which also gives the players a feel for university life in the USA.

This will be a wonderful experience for these players and will definitely show them where they need to be to be able to compete and be successful at that next stage and level of Basketball.

Congratulations again Rachel & Atsuya we are all extremely proud of you and your achievements to date.
