Another young man has died a violently at Kāpiti Lights in the second outbreak of vicious fighting in the area in less than five weeks.
Both deaths occurred within walking distance of the Kāpiti Police Station, which is not manned overnight.
In last night’s violence, a 20-year-old man has died following a fight in the car park adjoining Montheith’s Kāpiti Junction Bar. Well-known Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Oxnam is leading the inquiry.
Police were called to the Kapiti Lights in Paraparaumu about 12.40am and found the man dead at the scene.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Oxnam says police are speaking to people who were in the vicinity of the Monteith’s Brewery Bar at Kapiti Lights Junction at the time of the fight.
“Police are in the early stages of this investigation and have a large team working on establishing the circumstances surrounding this death,” he says.
Five weeks ago today, 17-year-old Izak Millanta was found by police unconscious in a carpark at the back of the nearby Coastlands shopping area carpark.
He died in Wellington Hospital the following day.
A 25-year-old man has been charged with assaulting him.
A further four men were arrested in relation to unrelated assaults that took place on the Kapiti coast the same night.
