Remembering our Treaty History
Commemoration at Te HoroJanuary 29, 2010
The Kāpiti Coast District Council says it will work in partnership with Te Whakaminenga o Kāpiti and Ngāti Huia ki Katihiku (Marae Committee) this year to host the commemoration of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi.
It says the commemoration will be held on Saturday, February 6, at Katihiku Marae, Swamp Road, Te Horo.
The theme, like last year, is ‘Remembering our Treaty History, Celebrating our Diversity’.
Visitors can hear more about the Treaty of Waitangi, Kapiti local history and tāngata whenua –and enjoy the beautiful rural Katihiku Marae.
The day begins at 10.00am with a pōwhiri followed by performances by local bands, musicians, dancers and poets.
There will be historical displays, stalls, activities and a special ‘Tent of the Universe.’
The stalls will offer Māori hangi food and also a variety of other foods prepared by members of Kāpiti’s ethnic communities.
The organisers say visitors need to bring sunhats, sun block, picnic blankets.—and good vibes!
Katihiku Marae will be well sign-posted from Te Waka Road, State Highway 1 and Addington Road.
