Kapiti Basketball player and Paraparaumu College student Jacinta Beckley has been selected for the NZ Under 18-Women’s Basketball Team following the Women’s Basketball selection camp in Auckland.
The New Zealand Team leaves for Perth on April 10 for the Australian Under 18 State Championships.
Jacinta has been training and playing for the Kapiti Basketball Association since she was 12.
I think that making the NZ Under 18 team at the age of 16 is fantastic — and she is pleased and proud to be wearing the black uniform.
She trains and plays four or five times a week locally and in the Hutt Valley and Wellington. She has also been having one on one coaching with me.
Jacinta is Kapiti Basketball’s first NZ female representative player, but there is no funding for the team, so players are responsible for raising th $4,140 needed for the trip.
Anybody interested in sponsoring Jacinta $100 towards costs, or donating items to help with fundraising, should contact Jacinta through the Kapiti Basketball Association.
